Location, Location, LocationIn general, you can choose from three locations to stay in our area: Mt. Crested Butte, the Town of Crested Butte (downtown), or in outlying areas.
Mt. Crested Butte accommodations are generally condominiums, hotels, or rental homes. Mt. Crested Butte locations offer the closest access to the ski lifts: usually ski-in ski-out, or a short walk away. The down-side of staying in Mt. Crested Butte is that your shopping, dining, and night-life choices are limited.
For the most shopping, dining, and entertainment, you’ll want to stay in the Town of Crested Butte. In town, you can rent a private home, stay at a smaller hotel or a bed & breakfast. All the restaurants and shops that Crested Butte is famous for are within walking distance, and the ski area is still only a 10-minute free shuttle bus ride away.
If your vacation goal is to get away from it all, consider staying in cabins, lodges, or huts in outlying locations. Most of these accommodations are usually very close to (or surrounded by) national forest or wilderness. Still, all the services of Crested Butte will usually be no more than a half hour’s drive away.
