Spring powder day...what more could you ask for?

Announcements
It’s one of those days while waiting in line for the first chair at the Silver Queen that you can’t help but ask yourself just what you’ve done to earn a powder day on the last day of March 2008. Here’s the quick and dirty for all you locals…we’ve received 8 inches in the last 24 hours, with the bulk of new snow falling after the lifts closed yesterday. In the last 48 hours, we’ve had 14 inches and the total snowfall for this most recent winter storm is 16 inches. Go ahead, cancel your appointments, call in sick or join your boss on the slopes- it’s a spring powder day and I know you won’t miss it.

Here’s a little of the forecast for this fine Monday and for the next few days. We are still under a Winter Storm Watch until 6 pm tonight and you can expect 3 to 5 inches of daytime accumulation. There is a 40% chance of snow for this evening, expected to fall before midnight. Tomorrow will bring partly sunny skies, higher temps and smooth skiing and riding from tonight’s snowfall. On Wednesday, there is a 30% chance of snow, so it would be wise to expect great conditions on the mountain all week long.

If you’re a guest in town and never skied powder before, consider today your lucky opportunity. Call CB Mountain Schools this morning and sign up for a ski or snowboard lesson. Let their talented and professional instructors teach you how to properly carve it up on this spectacular powder morning! They’ll teach you all you need to know to navigate your way down the powdery slopes with style. CB Mountain Schools can be reached at 970-349-2252; you can also make ski school arrangements at the CB Mountain Schools Desk in the Axtel Building just behind the Silver Queen Lift.

One last thing for all you potential visitors out there…through the last day of the season, April 13th, Crested Butte Mountain Resort is offering the best deal for all passholders- half price lift tickets! Present your pass from any other ski resort at the Crested Butte Ticket Office and get ½ price lift tickets- as low as $19.50! For more information on lift tickets, call the Adventure Center at Mountaineer Square at 970-349-2262. Passholders can also receive 10-15% off lodging booked through Crested Butte Vacations. For lodging and ticket packages, call 1-800-810-7669.

It was an eventful weekend here in Crested Butte and with the last two weeks of the season upon us, there is no slowing down now. You’ve earned a spring powder day…forget your trip to Gunnison and cancel your flights home. I’ll see you on the hill!
