Good morning ski bunnies and powder hounds! This is Colorado's very own Snow Betty with the snow report for Crested Butte Mountain Resort on Sunday, December 21, 2008. Well, it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas! And we have plenty of the white stuff for Santa and his reindeer. In the last 24 hours, we've received 3 inches of snow, and 7 inches in the last 48. Since last Sunday, we've gotten 39 inches of snow and we are now 96% open! Almost every lift on the mountain is open- a total of 13 of our 16 lifts. This means that everyone gets their own little powder stash today, as you'll have your pick of 81 trails and a total of 610 accessible acres. The grooming team has been up on the mountain all night grooming 481 acres of Colorado's Best Corduroy, and they are very glad to report that 100% of our beginner and intermediate terrain is now open, in addition to 54% of our advanced terrain. Today will be one of the most perfect days of the season at Crested Butte Mountain Resort, as our grooming crew, lift operations and maintenance team, and Ski Patrol open the East River Lift. This high speed quad gives skiers and riders access to some of our favorite trails on the mountain, including Bakery, Black Eagle, Daisy, Double Top Glades, Floresta, Lower Gallowich, Lower Red Lady, Lower Treasury and Resurrection. We will also be opening the Prospect Lift today and extending the skiing and riding boundaries to Deer Pass, Little Queen and Prospector. Bundle up today and don't forget to take a shopping break! If you're a last minute shopper, we have great news for you. The base area at Crested Butte Mountain Resort has unique and convenient places to pick up last minute gifts for whomever is still on your list. One of my favorites is The Shop, located in the lobby of the Grand Lodge. The Shop features eclectic art and keepsakes created by local artists and craftsmen that embody the Crested Butte style. Pick up something that is uniquely Crested Butte, and share our small town personality with your loved one. If there's an athlete in your life who can't get enouogh winter gear, then Thin Air Sports should be your next stop. Thin Air Sports is Crested Butte's newest specialty retail store featuring ski, outdoor and lifestyle apparel and shoes. Ask an associate for help picking out just the right gift for winter athletes. A great way to spend your Sunday- hop on the free bus to the mountain, take a couple of runs on East River, then take a break with a great cup of Camp 4 Coffee, and shop the shops at the base area.
