Announcements
Good morning ski bunnies and snow hounds! This is Colorado's very own Snow Betty with the snow report for Crested Butte Mountain Resort on Sunday, February 15, 2009. Great news for you this morning! We've received five inches of new snow in the last 24 hours, and 2 inches since the lifts closed yesterday. We've had eight inches of new snow in the last 48 hours, and this storm has dumped a total of 25 inches on Crested Butte. This new snow brings our season total to 231 inches. We are skiing and riding in powder and packed powder conditions, with a base of 58 inches. There's so much accessible terrain at Crested Butte Mountain Resort. We're talking a grand total of 1250 acres, 481 of which is groomed and your choice of 104 trails. If you're feeling adventurous, check out our Extreme Terrain...we're 100% open on the North Face, Teocalli, Spellbound and Third Bowl. If you want to cruise the groomers, you have 75 trails to choose from. 15 out of 16 lifts can shuttle you wherever you want to go, and you're sure to find your own line, and possibly your favorite run of the season, throughout our terrain. You can expect temps to reach 24 today and we've got a high chance of snow every day this week. We've had a spectacular weekend-the highlight being the Northface Snowboard Masters. The Snow Betties would like to "shout out" to all the winners of the contest, but especially our local riders- Susan Mole, Mary Boddington Clif Dimon and Gareth Van Dyk. Now we're all looking forward to the next event at Crested Butte Mountain Resort- the infamous Extreme Freeskiing Championships. This weekend's competition begins on Thursday, with the juniors kicking things off. We've been watching these groms turn into ripping young skiers who approach the steeps with style and aggression. The adult competition will begin on Friday, and, as usual, you should prepare to be wowed. Our mountain has some of the easiest access to what is onsidered to be the country's best steeps and is recognized as the home to some of the most elite winter athletes. You'll see local favorites as well as up and coming skiers from the Extreme Tour. The venues will be announced the morning of each competition, and the locals will be out in their glory. Check skicb.com for updates on this weekend's competitions, or ask any of our knowledgeable and friendly lift operators. This is Colorado's very own Snow Betty signing off, and looking forward to the upcoming peak of the 2009 Extreme Season. I'll see you on the hill.
