Good morning everyone. This is Colorado's very own Snow Betty with the snow report for Crested Butte Mountain Resort on Fat Tuesday, February 16, 2010. Folks will be celebrating Mardi Gras up on the mountain today, as they ski and ride on the 1144 acres of infamous Crested Butte terrain. Beaded purple, yellow and green folks will be choosing from 110 trails accessed by 16 lifts. For all those fans of Colorado's Best Corduroy, we'll have 68 trails for you to ski today including the Groomer's Choice, Championship. The Superpipe on Paradise is open and freshly cut for all you eager groms out there. I don't know about you, but the Winter Olympics in Vancouver have inspired my skiing this week- I'm skiing the bumps better than ever, and I am sure there are others who are racing faster down the mountain or trying out new tricks in the terrain park. Crested Butte Mountain Resort asks that you know the code and that you're safe while skiing and riding on our mountain. Now for the fun stuff... It's that time again. Time for the 2010 Subaru US Freeskiing Championships. This competition is in its 19th year and the Extremes will come alive over the next five days. See Juniors and Masters begin their vie for the championship beginning on Wednesday and Adults compete in the qualifiers on Thursday. Crested Butte Mountain Resort and Mountain Sports International team up every year to celebrate the birthplace of Big Mountain competitions, and this year is marked with the largest cash purse on Freeskiing circuit and sweet prizes from all the sponsors. As the Snow Betty knows, the best part of the Freeskiing Championship is the crowd, and locals are expected to show up in masses to cheer on their favorite skiers.
