Can you say, powder day?! So much powder, bring your snorkel! We are in the middle of a massive and generous winter snow storm here in Crested Butte. For the second day in a row, I have x-country skied to the base area with plenty of cushion for my skinnies. You’re not going to believe how much snow is out there…we’ve gotten 32 inches of snow in the last 24 hours and 78 inches in the last seven days. It’s like powder heaven, folks! If you’re looking for face shots and that floaty feeling you get when skiing on the best powder, head on up to the Butte.
There will be plenty for everyone too…forecasters have declared a Winter Storm Warning in Crested Butte through 6 pm Saturday. We’ve got nothing but snow in the forecast…you’ll see snow all day today and tomorrow and then high chances of more snow through Monday. With temps ranging from 17 and 36 degrees, we’ve got great conditions for continued snow in the forecast. Along with this also comes a Winter Weather Advisory until 6 am Saturday. So, if traveling is in your forecast, check the road conditions before you leave home, carpool with your powder-hound friends and drive safe.
You can expect terrain openings throughout the weekend as Crested Butte’s top of the line Ski Patrol works to test the safety of the terrain and get the slopes open as quickly and safely as possible. Cheers to them! East River is slated to open on Saturday, so stay tuned to the snow report for updates. Call the toll free snow report at: 1-888-442-8883.
We’ve got some exciting events going on in Crested Butte this weekend. If you haven’t already heard, Test Ride Crested Butte is happening right now and will end next Saturday, December 15th. This is your chance to see what Crested Butte skiing and riding is all about, and with Test Ride Crested Butte, you can do it for free! That’s right, lift tickets are FREE until next Saturday. If we’re your destination for the weekend, you’ll be pleased to know that we’ve got great lodging discounts at the Grand Lodge hotel and the Wood Creek Condominiums. Call Crested Butte Vacations for rates and reservations at 1-888-223-2631.
Also this weekend is the Crested Butte Christmas Parade. In classic Crested Butte style, there will be creative floats, jubilant people and Elk Avenue at its finest. The events begin at 5 pm sharp and will include a parade procession and two Tree Lighting Ceremonies. Santa will be there, so try your best not to be naughty! Good Morning America will also be on hand to witness why locals and visitors alike call this place paradise.
It’s a powder day, guys and gals. I am going to have to ask you to step away from your computer…find a plane, train or automobile and get to Crested Butte for the best powder skiing in Colorado. We are in the middle of a fantastic winter storm- you have no reason to miss out on the incredible skiing and riding at Crested Butte Mountain Resort.
See you on the white and fluffy!
