All aboard the Pineapple Express! Whoo whooooo!

The southern branch of this Polar jetstream is the reason for all this terrific snow that has fallen on Crested Butte in the last two weeks. The Pineapple Express has dropped off 70 inches of new snow in the past 7 days! Over the past two days, we’ve had six inches of fresh snow bringing our top mountain base to 54 inches. By the looks of it, folks, the 2007-2008 winter season is going to be a beauty…you just might be in for the best skiing and riding season of your entire life.

Celebrate the Pineapple Express as you ride the High Lift up to some of the best runs in the whole country. The famous Headwall will surely be the most desired run of the day for all those skiers and riders who love the challenge of the open steeps. Try your hand at Headwall…you won’t be disappointed!

71% of our terrain is now open- a total of 574 acres, 280 acres of which has been groomed to your delight. My personal favorite on the mountain, Black Eagle, is the groomer’s choice today. Trek on over to East River to see why Crested Butte Mountain Resort touts “Colorado’s Best Corduroy.” As you ride up the East River Lift, don’t forget to turn around and witness the most magnificent views of the Elk Mountain Range and East River Valley. A picture-perfect snapshot of the West is what you’ll find.

Looking for the best place to catch some rays at Crested Butte Mountain Resort? You definitely need to head to Butte 66. Great for lunch- with their famous chillis, pulled pork or smoked brisket sandwiches, sweet potato fries, and their scrumptious fried pickles. Never had a fried pickle? Well, I guess it’s never too late to start a new addiction. See for yourself…Ski Magazine wrote that Butte 66 has “One of the nation’s best happy hours.” So, come get your kicks at Butte 66!

With the holiday season upon us, and Christmas in only 12 days, you’ll find everything from ski and snowboard gear, equipment and accessories at convenient locations throughout the base area. Just to name a few…Peak Sports, Christy Sports, Flatiron, Crested Butte Sports, Butte & Company, Colorado Free Skier, Real Balance, and Colorado Boarder. Keep the skiers and riders in your life happy with a gift from any of these groovy establishments.

As usual, the Crested Butte Ski Patrol has been working diligently to open up more of that terrific terrain. Ski-in, ski-out lifts are slated to feature this weekend; homeowners and their guests can experience the convenience of Gold Link, Prospect and West Wall Lifts. Thanks to the Ski Patrol, we can also look for the Extremes to open up this weekend. Stay tuned for further details on terrain openings throughout this weekend.

Have a good one, everybody!
