Special Announcements
The Profurious Park and Pipe Series begins tomorrow, with the annual New Year’s Eve Rail Jam. Registration will be limited to 11 am to 1 pm…don’t be late- get here with plenty of time to spare and to practice on the rails from 12:30 to 1:30 pm. Registration will be held in the Capitol Room of the Lodge at Mountaineer Square. Don’t forget that helmets are required for this competition; qualifiers begin around 2 pm and the competition will last through dusk. Call 970-349-2217 for more information on this year’s rail jam.

New Year’s is one of the most festive times at Crested Butte Mountain Resort. I haven’t missed the fireworks or torchlight parade yet! While you witness the moves and grooves of Crested Butte’s very best jibbers at the Rail Jam, the decks of Butte 66 and the Atmosphere Restaurant are great places to enjoy the annual New Year’s Eve torchlight parade and fireworks. Ski school’s best will be skiing and riding down the mountain with torches in hand just around dusk; this stream of light will be followed by the annual New Year’s Eve fireworks. Kids torchlight parade will also take place through Kids’ World. Let the kiddos experience the exhilaration of skiing down the mountain at dusk with glow sticks. Call 970-349-2259 for reservations.

Announcements
Well, the weather outside is…perfect! We’ve received 4 inches of fresh powder in the last 24 hours and a total of ten inches in the last seven days. Our top natural snow base is now 47 inches, and you’d better believe that warmer temps overnight has provided some great weekend skiing…get out there and get some freshies of your own.

As of 5 am, the skies were partly cloudy and there was light snow and a few gusty winds. The forecast for today is snow, snow, snow…and the winter storm watch is in effect until 5 am Monday. We have a total of 1136 acres open on the mountain, with 474 groomed acres and 105 total trails to check out.

The holiday season is in full swing, so here are a couple of tips from the associates of Crested Butte Mountain Resort. Base Area Basics in the Outpost Building is a great one-stop shop for sunscreen, lip balm, hand and feet warmers and last-minute glove, socks and goggle purchases.

We suggest that if you are dining on the mountain today and want to avoid the crowds, eat lunch early or late and ski during the noon hour. Paradise Warming House offers a great, warm, place to enjoy hot and cold sandwiches and beverages, salads, soups, and snacks. Also, the Atmosphere Restaurant just behind the Red Lady Express has a quick service BBQ lunch outside on their deck- pick up a burger or some chilli and be back on the hill in no time.

Sit-down restaurants on the mountain include our very own Butte 66, the Atmosphere Restaurant at the Elevation Hotel, The Woodstone Deli at the Grand Lodge, as well as The Avalanche Bar and Grill, the Labrador Bakery and Pub, and Camp 4 Coffee. Find great food and classic Crested Butte atmosphere at any of these dining locations.

We are glad to announce that the DC Superpipe and terrain parks are now open, thanks to our motivated park and grooming crews. You can’t miss the guys and gals in their green and yellow stripes…be sure to thank them for all the jibbing you’ll be doing today!

I have a feeling you are going to love the next couple of days at Crested Butte Mountain Resort. With fresh snow, plenty of dining and shopping options and the best New Year’s celebration in Colorado, you’ll love the entire scene. Have a great day everyone…see you on the hill.
