New Year’s Eve is exhilarating at Crested Butte Mountain Resort. While we reflect on the last year and look forward to the next, it’s a great time to celebrate with the annual torchlight parade and fireworks. While you witness the moves and grooves of Crested Butte’s very best jibbers at the Rail Jam, the decks of Butte 66 and the Atmosphere Restaurant are great places to enjoy the annual New Year’s Eve events. Ski school’s best will parade down the mountain with torches in hand just around dusk and will be followed with the best fireworks in Colorado! The Kids Torchlight Parade will also take place through Kids’ World. Let the kiddos experience the exhilaration of skiing down the mountain at dusk with glow sticks. It’s New Year’s Eve Day at Crested Butte Mountain Resort and we’ve gotten ten inches of fresh snow over the last 24 hours! That’s right folks…it’s another substantial POWDER DAY for the Butte! There is no other way to ring in the New Year than to be out there making the most memorable powder turns of the past year…face shots and all!

We’ve had 14 inches of new snow in the last 48 hours and a total of 20 inches of snow in the last seven days. What a legendary week! There are 1136 total acres, 500 groomed acres and 105 trails open for your skiing and riding delight. You won’t need your wax today…just lean back and enjoy the best powder conditions of 2007. 97% of our terrain is open, with 100% beginner, intermediate and advanced terrain and 94% of the Extremes. Watch for ropes today as the Ski Patrol ensures that skiing and riding conditions are safe for all of us. And for goodness sake, trust their judgments!

At 5 am, the temperature was 12 degrees, and it was still snowing! Snow is expected throughout the day and then temperatures are expected to rise and we will once again see those Colorado bluebird skies for the next few days. We are ringing in the New Year, loud and clear here at Crested Butte Mountain Resort. It’s your personal responsibility to show your appreciation of Mother Earth by skiing and riding your toosh off!

The holiday vacation season is in full swing, so here are a couple of tips from the associates of Crested Butte Mountain Resort. We suggest that if you are dining on the mountain today and want to avoid the crowds, eat lunch early or late and ski during the noon hour. Paradise Warming House and the quick service BBQ lunch on the deck of the Atmosphere Restaurant are two great places to pick up some sustenance and get back on the hill in no time.

Sit-down restaurants on the mountain include Butte 66, the Atmosphere Restaurant at the Elevation Hotel, The Woodstone Deli at the Grand Lodge, The Avalanche Bar and Grill, the Labrador Bakery and Pub, Camp 4 Coffee and The Firehouse, located in the Plaza Building. Find great food and classic Crested Butte atmosphere at any of these dining locations.

It’s New Year’s Eve and everyone will be on the hill today. If you’re a guest, be sure to thank the CBMR associates for working this holiday season and making great skiing and riding possible for you. Thank your family and friends for a great year, do or don’t make resolutions for the next…but above all, just get out there and enjoy the powder! Happy New Year everyone…see you on the hill!
