Good morning snow hounds and ski bunnies! What a weekend we have in store for locals and guests alike. This month is chock full of great community events…read on for details. On to the snow report! We’ve had two inches of snow in the last seven days, and with a hefty 83” base, and 106 open trails, skiers and riders will most surely find delights at Crested Butte Mountain Resort this weekend. Temperatures will be perfectly mild on this fine Saturday; you can expect highs to reach into the mid-30’s and a 50% chance of snow. Similar weather is forecasted for tomorrow, but don’t wait until then…get those legs moving over 1177 acres of the best skiing and riding terrain in the country.

Days like today will have you enjoying Colorado’s Best Corduroy all day long. Take a break at any of our spectacular base area establishments- the Atmosphere Restaurant in the Elevation Hotel, Butte 66 Roadhouse BBQ, Trackers in Mountaineer Square, and The Woodstone Bar and Grill and the Woodstone Deli in the Grand Lodge. On the mountain, you’ll find the Ice Bar and Restaurant, Rustica Ristorante, and Paradise Warming House. With so many choices, you will not go hungry or thirsty during a long day of skiing and riding.

Okay, it’s what you’ve been waiting for. There is so much to do in Crested Butte tonight- after a day on the hill, allow your entertainment to be provided for you. The last evening of the 32nd Annual Banff International Film Festival is tonight. The annual fundraiser supports Crested Butte Search and Rescue and features exceptional films and storytelling for both the experienced mountaineer and armchair adventurers. Stop by the Alpineer or the Center for the Arts for ticket information. Down in Gunnison, the Gunnison Arts Center presents “Paddler on the Rocks,” a production addressing the issues our area will need to address as global warming takes its toll on the world. For more information, call 970-641-4029.

In addition, tonight is none other than the infamous Red Lady Ball; established by the High Country Citizens’ Alliance, the annual fundraiser is the most famous effort to raise awareness and generate funds to help protect the land, water, and wildlife of the Gunnison Valley, including the beloved Red Lady. This year, the High Country Citizens’ Alliance will have Great American Taxi serenade the night away, and, as usual, throughout the evening, they’ll hold a raffle of prizes from local businesses in the valley. Just before midnight, the HCCA will crown the 2008 Red Lady! The party starts at 8 pm and tickets, which include an annual membership, are $25. Always a great time, and the most important issue pressing the Gunnison Valley, Crested Butte Mountain Resort encourages you to attend the 2008 Red Lady Ball.

In other fun news, in response to continued interest from Colorado residents, Colorado Ski Country USA is organizing an initiative to offer a ski themed license plate for vehicles registered in Colorado. Colorado had a ski plate in 1958 but has not had one in 49 years. In asking the state for a ski license plate, CSCUSA must submit an application that includes a list of 3000 names of individuals interested in a ski plate, to the Colorado Department of Revenue. The signatures on the list must be people with a valid Colorado address. People interested in supporting the ski license plate can add their name to the list of interested parties by visiting www.ColoradoSkiPlate.com and including their full name, complete address, county and number of sets of license plates they would potentially be interested in purchasing.

There is no better place to be right now. If you’re not here already, hop on our website, www.skicb.com and start making plans to visit Crested Butte Mountain Resort. You won’t regret it. Have a great weekend, make good decisions and I’ll see you on the hill!
