Announcements
Hey there snow hounds and ski bunnies- how about three inches of new snow to make your Friday that much better?! You heard me right…we’ve gotten three inches of new snow in the last 24 hours and 21 inches in just the last week. This is Colorado’s very own Snow Betty with Crested Butte Mountain Resort’s snow report for Friday, March 21, 2008. Other great news for all you advancing skiers and riders out there…the Twister Lift will reopen today, making it easier for you to ride your favorite single black diamond runs including Groomer’s Choice today- International.

What else will be happening at Crested Butte Mountain Resort on this late season day? We’ll have breathtaking views of the Gunnison Valley and the Elk Mountain Range due to our infamous Colorado bluebird skies. Temps will rise to about 40 degrees today, so don’t forget your sunblock and sunglasses. You’ll probably need them while you break at Paradise Warming House or dine out on the deck of Butte 66. Sunblock should be your entry fee today to watch the biggest names in the telemark industry compete in the 12th Annual Telemark Freeskiing Competition.

The Telemark Freeskiing Competition is unique to Crested Butte and showcases the best free heelers in the world. Spectators are welcome at the event and all venues are accessible to intermediate skiers and snowboarders. Check the white boards at the bottom of the lifts to find the venue locations and enjoy witnessing skilled and competitive free-heelers take their favorite stages in Crested Butte.

This major event will culminate with the ever-popular Al Johnson Memorial Uphill/Downhill Telemark Ski Race. The AJ, as it is fondly referred to by locals, begins with a mass start of approximately 200 men and women. The competitors will free-heel up and down some of Crested Butte’s expert terrain, and must finish with both skis and poles, even if broken. What makes this event really special is that the majority of the racers dress in costume for the race. Totally Crested Butte style, there are no limits to the creativity you’ll witness at the AJ. A great time for participants and spectators alike- don’t miss this one of a kind event on Sunday at 12 pm at the bottom of the North Face Lift.

Well, with a little fresh snow, cloudless, bluebird skies and legendary terrain, you’ll surely make memories this weekend at Crested Butte Mountain Resort. Happy Friday and I’ll see you on the hill!
