Soo Bahk Do is a traditional Korean system of Self-Defense, which promotes and maintains total mind and body fitness. Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan is a National and International organization with over 40,000 Black Belt members. Founded by Grand Master Hwang Kee in 1945, it is a combination of hard and soft styles, blending Korean kicks with Chinese hand techniques.
West Elk Soo Bahk Do is a "not for profit organization" and is part of the United States
Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan Federation. All Dan ((Midnight Blue Belts, (Black Belts)) testing is overseen by the Federation, and schools are inspected yearly to ensure that the practice of Soo Bahk Do meets Federation standards. West Elk Soo Bahk Do has classes in both Crested Butte and Gunnison. Andy Tyzzer, executive director of West Elk Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan and chairman of its Board of Directors, holds the rank of 4th Dan and is designated as Sa Bom or Master Instructor by the Korean Soo Bahk Do Association, Moo Duk Kwan.
