Does VisitCrestedButte.com provide tourism/informational packets about Crested Butte?

Sadly, no; however, we are happy to connect you with the Crested Butte/Mt. Crested Butte Chamber of Commerce, which does provide this information.

Does this site provide lists of information, such as dining, lodging, businesses, events, etc?

Yes, we do. Navigate to the home page, scroll down to the middle of the page, and peruse our variety of informational lists.

Where should I fly into when trying to get to Crested Butte?

Crested Butte does not have a public airport; however, the City of Gunnison does. The airport name is Gunnison Crested Butte Regional Airport. If you are searching flights, the airport code is “GUC.” This is the closest airport, only about a half hour drive away from the Town of Crested Butte. Need transportation from Gunnison? There are a variety of transportation options, including Black Canyon Limo, the free Gunnison RTA Bus, CB Specialty Services, and Dolly’s Mountain Shuttle. For more tips on traveling to Crested Butte, visit our Travel page.

I’ve heard about “off-season.” When is this, and how does this affect my upcoming trip?

There are two “off-seasons” or “shoulder-seasons” in our resort town. Typically, the fall off-season begins when the summer lifts close at CBMR and ends when CBMR opens again for the winter. The spring off-season begins when CBMR closes for the ski season and ends when CBMR opens again for the summer. That said, these times are great for those who like less crowds. The early part of fall in particular is a great time to visit if you are activity-centered for fall foliage viewing, camping, biking, fly fishing, hiking, and more. The spring off-season tends to be a bit muddy, so if you’re hoping to bike or hike, be sure to watch the weather, check our mountain biking report, or contact us for the latest details. If your trip is centered on skiing, CBMR, and/or eating at the popular Crested Butte restaurants, you may want to consider booking your trip around when CBMR opens and closes. Of course, if you have questions, don’t hesitate to contact us.

When do the mountain passes close, such as Kebler and Cottonwood Pass?

If you are considering driving to Crested Butte via Kebler or Cottonwood Pass, be sure to check the open and close dates, as both of these passes close during the winter. Kebler and Cottonwood Passes (maintained by Gunnison County Public Works) are typically closed from November to May. Visit cotrip.org or contact Debbie Ferchau at (970) 641-0044 for up-to-date information.

Where do I find deals on lodging, lift tickets, etc?

A lot of resorts, including our favorite Crested Butte Mountain Resort, offer packages on lodging, equipment, ski passes, ski lessons and sometimes they offer airline credits! Stay tuned to their package deals by visiting their website. As you might have guessed, some deals have deadlines, so be sure to check in regularly for the latest deals!
